Feed is the general term for the food of all animals raised by humans. In the process of animal husbandry, infectious or parasitic diseases are often encountered. People generally use antibiotics as traditional feed additives to treat animal diseases. Although antibiotics can solve animal disease problems in the short term, over time, they can lead to bacterial resistance and a large amount of drug residue. By consuming them, people can directly transfer drug-resistant bacteria and drug residue to themselves, thereby endangering their health.

According to relevant data, 90% of the total amount of antibiotics consumed globally each year are used on food animals. In order to reduce the harm caused by the misuse of antibiotics, the country issued Announcement No. 194 in 2020, which banned the addition of antibiotics to feed in China from New Year's Day onwards.

With the development of biotechnology and microbiology industry, some microbial ecological regulators have emerged as alternatives to antibiotics in feed, such as live bacteria (probiotics) and oligosaccharides (prebiotics). They promote animal growth, improve animal immune ability and production performance by maintaining the balance of gut microbiota.
